§ 55-6. Notice of interment and procedure.

  • A. 
    Whenever possible, 36 hours' prior notice of interment should be given to the Director of Cemeteries.
    B. 
    The exact size of the outer case or vault and the grave location in the grave or lot should be reported to the Division of Cemeteries.
    C. 
    As a prerequisite to burial, a deed must be presented to the Division of Cemeteries and burial rights established before a grave will be opened or interment made, unless alternative proof is presented in order to establish burial rights.
    D. 
    No burial shall be permitted unless a burial permit is first presented to the Division of Cemeteries by a licensed undertaker.
    E. 
    No disinterment shall be permitted without first obtaining permission from the Director or his representative. The surviving spouse and children, if any, must file an affidavit requesting disinterment.
    F. 
    Before interment is made, the opening charge and any other special service charges that may have been requested must be paid for.
    G. 
    Cement outer vaults will not be permitted where the first interment is by casket only or by regular wooden outer box.
